The SACD production of the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden and Freiburg, "Arnold Schoenberg: Gurrelieder "under the heading choral works with the Prize of the German Record Critics for the fourth quarter of 2007 was excellent. The SWR Sinfonieorchester Baden-Baden and Freiburg will play under the baton of its conductor Michael Gielen with honor several soloists, the chorus of the Bavarian Radio Orchestra and the MDR Radio Choir Leipzig. Arnold Schoenberg has always been an important fixed star in a conductor as well as the compositional work of Michael Gielen. So it was only natural that on his 80th Birthday on 20 July 2007 this enormous work under Michael Gielen Schoenberg was published. This image - created in the temporal context of an extensive tour - is therefore also a tribute to a great musician and human being. The succinct title "Gurrelieder" belies the fact that it is one of the most powerful scores in music history. Michael Gielen knows well the aspects of this work, Schoenberg's' and sums it up thus: "What is special here is so that the liana-like, Rampant Nouveau is auskonstruiert polyphonic and therefore can not dissolve in a perfumed harmony itself." His memories "Absolutely Music" includes Gielen with the conclusion: "I have always thought - and I still - and, function of art and music is to give people the conflicts of their time and inside a paradigm to demonstrate - and only this was the truth of art. Just because the Schoenberg does in such an overwhelming way, it is for me is the greatest composer of the 20th century.
