2008 promises exciting encounters with Arnold Schoenberg's stage works, including two new productions of the tone row "From today to tomorrow." titled "Modern humans - Schönberg Trilogy" (Premiere: 5 April 2008) leads the Leipzig Opera the three-act play "expectation", "The steady hand" and "From today to tomorrow," together, which - partly serious, partly overcast - address the existential problems of the individual and society and in this combination, only very selten zu sehen sind. Inszeniert wird der Abend, der am 5. April 2008 Premiere hat, von Sandra Leupold („Erwartung“), Carlos Wagner („Die glückliche Hand“) und Immo Karaman („Von heute auf morgen“). Für die Rolle der Frau in dem Einakter „Erwartung“ konnte die amerikanische Sopranistin Deborah Polaski gewonnen werden, die an der Oper Leipzig in dieser Partie debütieren wird. Die musikalische Leitung hat Axel Kober. Das Arnold Schönberg Center wird anlässlich dieser Produktion eine Schönberg-Ausstellung an der Oper Leipzig gestalten.
Das Teatro La Fenice in Venedig wird den Einakter „Von heute auf morgen“ combine in a production of Ruggero Leoncavallo's Andreas Homoki with classic opera "Pagliacci" (Premiere: December 12, 2008). Under the direction of Eliahu Inbal will take over the young Austrian baritone Georg Nigl the role of the husband in Schoenberg's time opera, a work on a libretto by Max Blonda (pseudonym of Schoenberg's wife Gertrud) 1928-1929 was composed in Berlin.
